New Jersey School Performance Data

Starting with the 2015-16 school year, I have retrieved and cleaned data from the New Jersey Department of Education's School Performance Reports. Those data are available here in a school by year level format (each line represents one school in one year).


When using this data, please provide a citation, which helps to provide me with credit for the significant amount of work that has gone into creating this resource. Please cite this data in the following format, replacing Year with the year the data set was published, the X after "Version" with the version number of the dataset, and URL with the web address where the data are located:

NJ School Characteristics and Performance 2015/2016 to 2021/2022 Version 2

This file contains a panel of school-level data from the New Jersey School Performance Reports released annually by the New Jersey Department of Education. Please see the codebook for information about what elements are included in this file and how variables are named. Note that this file is large, with approximately 18,000 school-year observations and  nearly variables, so you may need to change the settings in your statistical software. if you are a Stata user, this can be done by entering the command "set maxvar 10000, perm" which will allow one to load a dataset with up to 10,000 variables and change this setting permanently.

This file contains a panel of school-level data from the New Jersey School Performance Reports released annually by the New Jersey Department of Education. Please see the codebook for information about what elements are included in this file and how variables are named. Note that this file is large, with approximately 15,000 school-year observations and  7700 variables, so you may need to change the settings in your statistical software.
